The forklift is an essential piece of machinery in most companies which operate warehouses, distribution centers, industrial and storage handling facilities. This great equipment, the lift truck is constructed of various components, such as the important carriage, the power source, the engine and the wheels. Lift trucks generally have a range of attachments as well. The following are several of the most important parts of a lift truck.
Engine of the Forklift - the forklift truck is designed with a power source at the rear of the machine. Different types of lift trucks have different types of engine which need varying power sources. Like for example, a lift truck with an internal combustion engine could have as its power source any of the following: diesel, gasoline, LP gas or CNG gas. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.
Frame of The Truck - the base of the forklift truck and the most vital of all the lift truck components is the truck frame. This forms the core of the machinery. All other forklift parts are connected to the base, like the wheels, axles, mast counterweight and overhead guard. Fuel and hydraulic fluid tanks may be part of the frame assembly too.
Counterweight Forklift Parts - While carrying heavy loads, the counterweight enables the machinery to be balanced. This particular part is cast iron and comes connected to the back of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the truck frame to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. The heavy lead-acid battery in an electric forklift gives balance and can function as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - The cab is also referred to as the operator compartment. Forklifts would sometimes have closed cabs whilst others would be open to the air. There are many parts located within the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such essential parts like the pedals, seats, levers, switches, steering wheel and operator controls. The dashboard has operator readouts.
