Lift Truck Battery Safety
The huge industrial sized batteries utilized to run electric forklifts should be charged regularly and correctly maintained. Safety procedures should be followed when someone connects the battery to the charger. It is essential to check battery fluid levels.
PPE - Personal Protective Equipment
It is vital for employees working with a lift truck battery to wear eye protection. Other PPG comprise goggles, safety glasses, or a full face shield. The best way to protect clothes and skin from leaked acid or other residue is to put on thick rubber gloves on the hands and an approved apron on the body.
Emergency Eyewash Station
An emergency eyewash post must be situated near the charging area. The path to the post should not be blocked and an injured worker must be able to go to the eyewash station from the charging place within 10 seconds while walking.
Charger Safety
The battery and charger should be at the same amperage. It should be turned off when the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
While near a charging area and battery, open flames are prohibited. Do not permit items like matches or lighters to be used when somebody is inspecting the battery fluid levels.
Ventilation
The battery charging place also needs to be well ventilated. The recharging method could release fumes. These fumes are both explosive and toxic.
