Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms which are connected to make an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is situated on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.

The scissor lift has a low profile, best suited for smooth surfaces such as concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These machines use either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator would need to move the lift itself if he or she has to travel horizontally, as the lift apparatus just operates the lift in a vertical way.

Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The rough terrain scissor lift and the standard scissor lift use the same lifting technology. The key difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base which is particularly designed for surfaces which are not even. These units also offer higher ground clearance and oversized all terrain tires. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive in order to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.

Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift utilizes a telescoping beam that elevates both diagonally and vertically. This unit has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift unit and has off-road capable tires.

Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms which are connected with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting equipment has a small work platform or a bucket which is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.

Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast in order to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are pneumatic powered or electrically powered and are self-propelled machines. These equipment provide an ideal solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is really essential to note that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
