The Liebherr family business was created in 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The business first gained fame from its mobile tower crane which was well-known for its affordability and ease of assembly. It was upon this creation that the company's foundation flourished under. These days, The Liebherr business has grown to become one of the world's leading manufacturers of construction equipment. The company has also earned the reputation of being the acknowledged provider of user-oriented technically innovative products and services in different fields. The business has presently become a "Group" working in each and every continent with over 130 companies and over 35,000 employees all over the globe.
To be able to guarantee a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units. These units have been designed to operate separately. This set up allows the company the ability to stay in tune with global competition and be flexible to market signals. The divisional control companies deal with the operative management of the sales companies and the production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group currently has ten different product divisions.
Liebherr Group's holding company is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is situated within Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by members of the Liebherr family. At present, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr in the second generation. Since 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by family members in the third generation such as: Stefanie Wohlfarth, Patricia Ruf, Sophie Albrecht and Jan Liebherr. These family members have been working together to be able to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects across the globe.
Hans Liebherr began to build his business in 1949, within a tiny town called Kirchdorf in southern Germany. Kirchdorf, now supports one of Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations. They employ more than 1400 individuals in that particular workforce and could average a yearly output of around 2800 wheeled excavators.
