A narrow aisle forklift is made for lifting and lowering loaded pallets from high storage areas. This particular kind is recommended for work environments with narrow spaces between aisles, like warehouses or retail environments. The forklift has solid rubber, small tires that make maneuvering easy.

The operator of this kind of forklift normally stands up in a small cockpit. The stand-up design allows the narrow aisle forklift to be as narrow ans short as possible. A stand-up cockpit forklift usually has three tires: one in the back, and two in the front. This configuration enables for easy and fast maneuvering. There are some versions of these forklifts which come with a sit-down cockpit. The lift attachment could pivot to the sides, permitting the lift to be operated without the operator having to reposition the entire machine. The sit-down model generally has four wheels.

Numerous narrow aisle forklifts are powered by an electric engine. Machines which are electrically powered are quiet and do not produce exhaust fumes, making them the suitable alternative for closed areas like retail spaces. Several lifts come with a gas engine or a diesel engine. However, the diesel version is not suggested for indoor application as it can produce exhaust and be noisy.
