Reach Truck
A reach truck is used to pile up supplies, pallets of goods, and to keep storage areas orderly. The reach truck comes in quite a few types: the straddle reach, stand-up reach and the double-deep reach.
The simplest type is the stand-up. The forks of the truck slide underneath the pallet and move it to the appropriate storage location. The forks slide the pallet into place. This type of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are one pallet deep.
The double-deep reach truck is similar to the stand-up, but is ideal for workplaces where shelving units are deep enough to accommodate two pallets of goods. This particular version has telescopic forks designed to place the pallet at the rear of the shelving unit. This saves having to push the pallet back when another pallet should go into the same shelving section.
The additional advantage of straddle reaches is that they could both slide beneath the pallet and grasp the sides too. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units are accessible in many directions. This model is ideal in conditions where goods would not be damaged if the pallet sides are grabbed.
Usually more than one type of reach truck is needed within warehouses. Textile firms and manufacturing facilities use various types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not difficult to operate and can maximize available storage space while increasing productivity.
